AI Backend Engineer

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced AI Backend Engineer to build and maintain scalable AI-powered backend services used in enterprise environments. You'll work on modern cloud-native applications, AI APIs, and distributed microservices while helping design reliable systems that are secure, performant, and easy to operate.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering role where you'll collaborate with frontend developers, infrastructure engineers, and product teams to build production-ready AI solutions. From designing REST APIs to deploying containerized applications on Kubernetes, you'll own the backend architecture that powers intelligent applications.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python.
• Build and enhance REST APIs and AI-powered microservices.
• Integrate external systems, APIs, and multiple data sources.
• Containerize applications with Docker and deploy them using Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, deployment, and releases.
• Monitor applications, troubleshoot production issues, and optimize system performance.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and continuously improve code quality through testing and reviews.
• Work closely with frontend, DevOps, and infrastructure teams in an agile environment.
• Document technical solutions and participate in planning, estimation, and sprint activities.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong Python development skills and experience building REST APIs.
• Experience developing and maintaining microservice-based applications.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
• Experience working with Kubernetes and/or OpenShift.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, preferably Jenkins or GitLab CI.
• Experience with Git and modern software development workflows.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Nice to have: experience with FastAPI.
• Nice to have: knowledge of Redis and Kafka.
• Nice to have: experience with Bash scripting.
• Nice to have: familiarity with SonarQube, Jira, Confluence, Dynatrace, or OpenSearch.
• Nice to have: basic understanding of AI and machine learning concepts.
• Nice to have: German language skills.
