Senior AI Bioinformatics Engineer

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Senior AI Bioinformatics Engineer to build next-generation AI systems that combine bioinformatics, distributed backend engineering, and modern AI technologies. This role sits at the intersection of hard science and hard engineering, solving problems where correctness genuinely matters.

You'll design distributed backend systems that process large-scale biological and scientific datasets, then layer LLM-powered tooling on top to make that data usable — for researchers, clinicians, or downstream products.

This isn't a role for someone who wants a stock CRUD app. You should be excited by ambiguous, science-adjacent problems and comfortable working closely with domain experts who aren't engineers.

What You'll Do

• Design and build distributed backend systems for processing large-scale bioinformatics and scientific datasets.
• Build LLM-powered tooling and agent systems on top of scientific data pipelines.
• Partner with domain experts (researchers, clinicians) to translate scientific requirements into engineering specs.
• Ensure data integrity and reproducibility across complex, multi-stage pipelines.
• Evaluate and integrate modern AI/LLM technologies where they genuinely improve outcomes.
• Write and maintain TypeScript services that other engineers can build on confidently.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, ideally with some exposure to bioinformatics, health tech, or scientific computing.
• Strong TypeScript and distributed-systems fundamentals.
• Practical experience building with LLMs — RAG, agents, or structured extraction from unstructured data.
• Comfort working with domain experts and translating ambiguous scientific problems into technical specs.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills for direct client collaboration.
• Genuine curiosity about the intersection of biology, data, and AI.
